Pyrite is a shiny brass-yellow mineral with a metallic luster. It’s made of iron sulfide and is actually the most common sulfide mineral out there. You can find it all over the world in igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks. Because of its gold-like color and shine, it’s often mistaken for real gold, which is why it’s called “Fool’s Gold.”

The name “pyrite” comes from the Greek word pyr, meaning “fire,” since striking it against metal or stone can create sparks. It was even used in old flintlock firearms for that reason.

In metaphysical circles, pyrite is known as a strong protection stone that helps block negative energy and environmental pollutants, promoting overall well-being. It’s said to strengthen willpower and mental focus by stimulating the second and third chakras. Many also consider it a lucky stone that attracts wealth and abundance.
